About

Mrs. Sonya W. Wilson

Licensed Professional Counselor and Psychotherapist

I help my clients identify what’s not working in their lives while managing life’s transitions with an assertive and courageous spirit.  I am passionate about helping my adult and adolescent clients realize that they are true survivors in life’s journeys which includes up and downs, good and bad days, unpredictable changes, challenges, low valleys, and tall mountains.  I have had great people in my life when these times came for me, but I realize everyone doesn’t have the same type of support system.  Well, I would be happy to be a member of your support system.

First Rule to Self-Care

Practice saying the following sentence several times.  No.  I believe “No” is a complete sentence that doesn’t need further explanation.  Most clients often feel obligated to make sure everyone else is okay and however their own needs and wants tends to go unfulfilled and absolutely unnoticed.  Anyone who feels unheard, unseen, disrespected or disregarded, can have negative effects in every aspect of their lives.  I strive to help clients establish firm boundaries, communicate assertively and practice self-care while maintaining balance and peace in their lives.

My Therapeutic Approach

I believe that everyone has the ability to grow and make necessary changes in their lives.  As your therapist, my role is to guide and support you along your journey as well as provide you with the skills to grow and make the necessary changes to overcome life challenges.  I aim to create a safe, non-judgmental space where together we can tackle the issues that hold you back from living the life you want to live. I use a variety of therapy methods including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Dialectical Behavior Therapy, Mindfulness, and Solution Focused Therapy.

Professional Experience

I have nine years of experience in the mental health field. Throughout my career, I have had the privilege of working with a diverse group of people.  I have had the pleasure of working hand in hand with people overcoming depression, anxiety, trauma, built up anger, unhealthy relationships, and confronting bullying all while balancing the normal day to day demands of life.
