Self-Esteem

We help with self-esteem issues at Peace Lov Harmony Counseling, LLC.  Low self-esteem causes you to feel insignificant, unworthy of love, like a burden to others, or unsure that you can be successful in life.  Most time the underlying theme for low self-esteem is the lack of assertiveness.  When individuals are passive, they are often left feeling dissatisfied, overlooked, and worthless because their needs are not getting met and their boundaries are being disregarded. These feelings can turn into resentment for one’s self and others and lead to not only low self-esteem but anxiety or depression if not addressed.  With low-esteem, you might even feel like you deserve to be treated poorly.  Many people with low self-esteem believe false negative thoughts about themselves and have the tendency to disregard their strengths or positive attributes.

If you are experiencing low self-esteem, you may experience some of the following symptoms:

  • Feeling unlovable/unworthy/incompetent
  • Mind reading (think that others view you in the same negative way you view yourself)
  • Depression
  • Fear/Anxiety (of making mistake/being rejected/looking foolish)
  • Excessive apologizing
  • Needy in relationships
  • Poor boundaries
  • Lack of assertiveness (passive, aggressive, passive-aggressive)
  • Perfectionism
  • Irrational/distorted self-statements
  • Obsessive-compulsive or addictive behaviors
  • Overreacts to situations
